You discover the a computer in your company's computer lab is not working properly.

Do you:
(a) contact IT so that they can fix the issue
(b) move to another computer and let someone else deal with the problem
(C) tape a sheet of paper that reads "not working" on the monitor without telling anyone

I used to enjoy going to the Sunset Grill for their midnight menu, and I'd consider going there if I want a nice dinner. Well, thanks to this, I don't think I'll ever go there or recommend it again. Randy Rayburn (the owner of Sunset Grill), along with a few other restaurant owners (including the owner of Sam's Sports Bar & Grill, another place I won't go to anymore) has decided that he needs to sue the state in order to stop the guns in restaurants law from going into effect. You know, that one that passed overwhelmingly in both houses, got vetoed, then had more votes to override that veto. According to this group, the state congressmen were duped and confused when they passed it twice.

I would have been ok if they had just posted a "no weapons" sign in their windows, but deciding that they need to sue to impose that decision on everyone?

I know neither of those establishments will miss my business, but it ticks me off.

My girlfriend offered to buy me a shotgun because I was depressed, but won't buy me a knife for my birthday because "it wouldn't be appropriate."

Dear moron software maintainer/distributor: When I tell you that the software crashes on opening, don't ask me to do something from within the program.

Also, I don't care what you say, upgrading software doesn't normally require scrubbing the machine of the old version including using regedit.

Please kindly die in a fire and take your crappy software with you.

To all you celebrities out there that have said something stupid and need to apologize for it. Take a lesson from David Letterman:

Notice that he does not say "I'm sorry that some people were upset with my statement," instead he says "people mistook what I said, and that's my fault."

This is a true apology, not the crap that you usually hear.

So, apparently, in reaction to the new law to allow carry permit holder to carry in places that serve alcohol, Nashville's city council considered denying beer licenses to anyone that doesn't post a "no weapons" sign.

Funny thing is that CPL owners could carry into a place that just served beer before the new law.

Apparently a couple representatives from New York have figured out a new way to strip 2nd amendment rights from law abiding citizens. They want to make it so if you're on the no fly list, you won't be able to buy a gun.

You know, that secret list that is constantly coming up with false positives including toddlers and Sen. Ted Kennedy? As evidence that this is needed, Rep. McCarthy's website sites a report from the GAO saying "that in a five-month period—February 3, 2004 through June 30, 2004—NICS checks resulted in an estimated 650 terrorist-related record hits in their databases. Of these, 44 were found to be valid." So, roughly 7% success rate makes it a valid tool to strip constitution rights from someone?

Is it really any wonder that when most pro-gun folks hear someone refer to "a common sense gun bill that will prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands" (a quote from McCarthy in reference to this bill), they hear "I want to take your guns away."

So, yesterday I sent out an email to everyone in the Nashville office telling them to only use the color printers if they absolutely needed color prints. Apparently, a good chunk of the office had been using them instead of the couple massive multi-function printers to print just about everything. My boss and I talked about it, and it boils down to "if things don't change, we take away the color printers."

Today, I get an email from one person asking if she could continue to use the color printer to print black and white prints to "free up the other printer." Gah.

Just thought I'd say thank you for what you do.

Here's the article/video that upset me yesterday. Basically, it's a bunch of cops in Birmingham, Al beating the hell out of an unconscious man. Granted, he led them on a high speed chase, damn near ran over the cop that dropped a spike strip in front of him, and only stopped because he flipped his van (and was thrown out while it was flipping), but he was unconscious by the time the first cop leaped at him much less when his billy club hit him.

If it was just one or two cops getting a couple licks in before being tackled by fellow officers, it might be understandable. The guy did damn near kill one of their coworkers. Understandable, mind you, not excusable. But no, more cops came over to help with the beatings, and the one whose car's camera caught all this turned around and turned the camera off! If that wasn't enough, none of the supervisors decided to bring in internal affairs or that disciplinary actions should be taken. The only reason this came to light was when the guy went to trial and he and his lawyer saw the video.

What's even more sickening is the number of comments praising the cops or stating that the firing of 5 of the officers was too harsh.

I need to go look at kittens again.

Christ. I just got pointed to a video that I may post because it's important to for folks to know these assholes exist and have badges...

But I need to find a good enough unicorn chaser first. Hell, I need a unicorn chaser of some sort for the past couple posts (excluding the phone post).

So... according to the New York Times, Obama is considering what he calls "'preemptive detention'" for "suspects who are deemed a threat to national security but cannot be tried."

Gee... Isn't that something that a lot of folks (myself included) were highly upset with the Bush administration? I wonder if the scattering of the detainees from Guantanamo to ultra-high security prisons across the country will be used to hide more torture or not.

Ok, that last sentence was my paranoid side coming out, but the first part should be taken to heart. We need to keep an eye on him and his administration. Yes, he's not Bush, but he's not making me much happier so far.

So, I went to the AT&T store to look at the new Propel Pro. Conveniently, it was sitting next to the HTC Fuze (my other choice).

I think I'm going to go with the Fuze. The Propel Pro was a lot larger than I thought it would be. It's close to as long and thick as the Fuze and is actually a little wider. It also doesn't have a touchscreen, uses a proprietary plug to do anything, the keyboard is about half the size as the Fuze, has about half as much onboard memory and is generally a weaker phone spec wise. Granted, it's about half the price as the Fuze (on the website, but, oddly, not at the physical store), but I've learned that smart phones are still at the point of development where differences in specs can make a big difference in user experience.

You know, I think I might send Samsung an email telling them that I was going to buy their phone until I discovered that it used a proprietary plug. I've got enough random plugs and cables without adding to that mess.

I randomly decided to listen to Neil Boortz instead of the normal complete whacko today. I left the feed on and Boortz was followed by Sean Hannity, to which I heard the following from his lips:
"So, the fact that water boarding led to information that led to us stopping an attack that would have killed thousands means nothing?! Is that what you're trying to say!?"

My answer: "yes."

Torture is torture. Period. Either it's wrong or it isn't.

Well, damnit. I was looking at new phones, trying to find a smart phone that isn't a large brick, and got excited about the Propel Pro. What I really want is a smart flip phone with a QWERTY keyboard (the Blackberry flip cheats... and is a T-Mobile exclusive), but I could be happy with a slider phone.

Aaaaaaaand it looks like Samsung decided to use a proprietary port for its data/power/audio port. What the fuck?

So, the Fuze is back on the table.

Apparently there are articles that appear *only* on Slashdot's mobile device site. Specifically, I site this one about Cryptic delaying Champions Online, because... well... the current consensus is that it's crap.

I couldn't even find that article using their search feature. odd.
